Our Team
Ben Corner -Founder
Hi, I’m Ben and my journey in horse racing began with hands-on experience working for two of the UK’s most respected Group 1 winning trainers, John Quinn and Julie Camacho, between 2015 and 2018. These years gave me a deep understanding of the industry from the inside out, from early morning gallops to the race day thrill.
In 2018, I returned to the family business, but my passion for racing never left. I've remained closely involved in the sport ever since, always keeping one eye on the entries and another on the sales. Running a syndicate has been a long-term ambition—one built not on glamour, but on grit, value, and the genuine love of the sport and the beautiful animals that make it what it is.
Belt and Braces Syndicate was born from that ethos. We don’t do flashy—no six-figure yearlings or headline-grabbing purchases. We focus on affordable horses with the potential to improve: well-scouted, well-handled, and well-run. It’s about being sharp, not showy—functional and fun, with an honest approach that puts the horse and the owners at the heart of everything we do.
Whether you’re a lifelong fan or a first-time owner, you’re welcome in the Belt and Braces Syndicate. Let’s enjoy the ride—mud, sweat, and cheers (and many beers!) included.
Roger Fell- Our Trainer
Roger Fell is a respected and hardworking trainer based at Arthington Barn Stables in North Yorkshire. Since gaining his full licence in 2016, he’s built an impressive record:
94 winners and £355K+ in prize money in 2018—his breakthrough season.
Home to the standout Lope de Vega gelding Burnt Sugar, who triumphed in three valuable seven-furlong handicaps, including the prestigious Bunbury Cup at Newmarket and the International Stakes at Ascot in 2018.
Since then, Fell has consistently delivered around 40–56 winners per season, showcasing his skill with both seasoned handicappers and overlooked bargains. His track record across all class levels underscores his talent for identifying and nurturing horses with untapped potential.
With top-notch facilities—including all‑weather and grass gallops—and a focus on honest, hands-on horsemanship, Roger provides an ideal environment for our syndicate. His no-nonsense, value-driven approach aligns perfectly with Belt and Braces: pragmatic, owner-centric, and serious about success.
Garry Lavery - Assistant Trainer
Garry Lavery brings a wealth of practical racing knowledge and sharp judgement to his role as Assistant Trainer to Roger Fell. With years of experience both on the ground and behind the scenes, Garry has carved a niche for identifying under-the-radar talent and plotting successful campaigns to maximise their potential.
As an owner himself, Garry has personally sourced and managed a number of smart, affordable horses—each one a testament to his eye for value and strategic planning. Among them are Hype Merchant, Monsieur Fantaisie, Annalee Lass, Northbound, and He's an Angel—all bought cheaply and brought along with care, patience, and placement to deliver strong returns and career improvement. He has won over £95k from 17 wins from 81 runs and He's An Angel won the ARC January horse of the month with a big money bonus.
Garry's approach aligns perfectly with the Belt and Braces ethos: no frills, just solid foundations, smart decisions, and a love for racing that puts the horse’s progression at the centre. His knowledge of the form book, race planning, and day-to-day training makes him a huge asset to the team—and to every syndicate owner involved.
